How can I get a work permit/visa?
There are several work categories available, that may be appropriate to your needs. Here is a brief outline of the main categories. If any of these are likely to suit your situation, click on the relevant link for details on the application process.
- Working Holiday programme -- this programme is only available to selected countries that have a reciprocal agreement with New Zealand for a Working Holiday Scheme. Applicants must be citizens of those countries and aged between 18 and 30 years. There are also additional requirements for each of the selected countries that you must meet, but a job offer is not required for this type of application.
- Partnership Work visa/permit -- if you are living in a stable and genuine relationship with a New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of New Zealand, you may qualify for this type of work permit/visa, and again for this type of permit/visa, a job offer is not required.
- Essential Skills Policy permit/visa -- this type of application requires a job offer from a New Zealand employer and the process will centre on the nature of the job, your work experience, your qualifications, and the supporting information from your New Zealand employer.
